What's the Food Safety course about?
This basic food safety course is an essential requirement for all employees in food-related industries, including catering, food manufacturing and food production, where food is prepared, cooked or handled. It is accredited by the Highfield and TQUK, both of whom are nationally recognised awarding body for the hospitality and catering industry.
You will cover the following units:
- Food safety hazards
- Temperature control
- Refrigeration, chilling and cold holding
- Cooking, hot holding and reheating
- Food handling
- Principles of safe food storage
- Food premises and equipment
You will need to sit an externally set written question paper of 30 multiple-choice questions. In special cases this exam may be conducted orally by prior arrangement.
What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?When you have successfully completed this course there are numerous opportunities for further study, including progression to higher levels of certification, such as the level 3 Supervising Food Safety in Catering (Intermediate Food Hygiene) course. The course can also lead to employment opportunities such as food posts within the commercial and industrial sectors of catering.
What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?No formal qualifications are required, although you will need to demonstrate that you have the necessary ability, enthusiasm and commitment to successfully complete the course.
Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?You will be awarded a Award in Food Safety in Catering at Level 2.
