What's the Youth Practice course about?
The Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work Practice aims to support the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent Assistant Support Youth Worker.
This provides practitioners with a qualification that embraces National Occupational Standards for youth work and their mandatory competencies containing knowledge requirements and levels of skill.
The Mandatory Units give 17 Credits and include:
- Understanding youth work principles and practice
- Safeguarding young people in a youth work setting
- Youth work principles, knowledge and skills in work-based practice
Support the provision of information and advice to young people
Optional Units offer 6 Credits and these can be selected whilst on the course and are transferable to other specified qualifications

Course units will be internally assessed via a learner's portfolio and other related evidence, against the unit outcomes and assessment criteria.
A combination of assignments, tasks, workplace evidence and discussion based assessments.
Learners who have achieved any of the units doing the L3 Award / Certificate can credit transfer them towards the credit required for this full L3 Diploma qualification.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Level 2 programmes are a route to the L3 Award, Certificate & Full Diploma leading to Higher Education.
Once qualified in the Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice you may wish to fulfil the role of Youth Support Worker.
Opportunities to compliment your qualifications in specialist areas like youth arts, youth sport, outdoor education, sexual health, homelessness, advice and information, youth justice, mentoring, youth/social care are available.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

You should have completed full-time education up to the age of 16 years. The course has been developed for people who are working in a Youth Work environment (public, voluntary or private sector, paid or unpaid) in a supportive role and who are supervised.
