What are the aims of this course?
Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they may have to complete off-the-job training by day release or over a number of days in a block. Customer service apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

What are the areas covered by this course?
The Apprenticeship covers the following:
- Effective customer service
- Supporting the customer service environment
- Provide customer service within the rules
Plus optional units from the following areas:
- Impression and image
- Delivery
- Handling problems
- Development and improvement

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Applicants should: - have a keen interest in providing excellent customer service - be prepared to work as part of a team - demonstrate a "can do" attitude - have basic numeracy and literacy skills

How is the course assessed?

The NVQ Certificate is assessed through work-based evidence compiled as a portfolio. The Certificate is assessed by a multiple choice examination and a practical demonstration/assignment.

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service
- Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service
- Functional skills in Maths, English and ICT
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Customer Service Apprenticeship at level 2 apprentices can go on to complete the Customer Service Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3

What are the career opportunities?

Apprentices who have completed their training can work in customer service roles in retail, administration, contact centres, IT and other technical sectors or perhaps go on to complete further training in a college or university.
